Body Found in Va. May be Missing Steger Woman

The 18-year-old woman was visiting family in North Carolina when she vanished

A childhood friend of a missing Steger woman is facing homicide charges after Virginia police found what's believed to be her body in the car's trunk, according to authorities.

Enrico Luciano Mascaro, 19, of Nags Head, N.C., was arrested in western Virginia Friday and charged with homicide and being a fugitive from justice.

Police in Kitty Hawk, N.C., issued a nationwide alert for Danielle Dennis-Towne, 18, of Steger, and Mascaro. The officers did so after discovering a crime scene, according the Chicago Tribune. Detectives tracked the 1996 Mustang to a parking lot using cell phone towers, WAVY-TV reported.

The Steger woman vanished while visiting her family in North Carolina, WLS-TV reported. She knew Mascaro from childhood, according to the Times of Northwest Indiana.

Dennis-Towne recently graduated from Bloom Trail High School and planned to attend Ripon College in Minnesota, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A medical examiner in North Carolina is determining the victim's cause of death.

Mascaro is set to be arraigned Monday.
