Body Pulled from Lake is Missing Boater

Christopher Gary drowned after boat got away from him

The body pulled from Lake Michigan on Tuesday evening near the Museum Campus is that of Christopher Gary, a boater who went missing during a late-night swim earlier this month, authorities said.

The body was pulled from the lake near East Roosevelt Road on Tuesday evening, about 1.5 miles from the shore.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office on Wednesday issued the ID of the 21-year-old missing boater.  The autopsy shows that he drowned and his death was ruled an accident.

Gary and Lincoln Park High School classmate James Shepherd went missing after a late night swim on August 6.  Shepherd drowned and his body was found soon after.

Two young women they were with were rescued by fisherman.  Both Irene Rogers and Kristin Masterson suffered no severe injuries after treading water for about five hours.
