Members of the public interested in seeing deep inside the Chicago Board of Trade got their chance Sunday.
The vault, located in the building housing the commodity exchange, opened to the public for the first time in its 83 years.
Owners of the Board of Trade's building unlocked the heavy doors as part of the weekend's architectural "Open House Chicago 2013."
Representatives from GlenStar Properties and USAA Real Estate Company — the board building's new owners — were on hand to welcome the public. The vault is no longer used by the Board of Trade.
The open house Saturday and Sunday was the third annual event by the Chicago Architecture Foundation and was free to the public.
