Bloomington Council Bans Booze on Party Buses

City council voted Monday to keep liquor out of vehicles for hire

Party buses are now banned in Bloomington.

The central Illinois community's city council voted Monday to keep liquor out of vehicles for hire.

The vote was 6-2 in favor of the new restriction.

City Attorney Todd Greenburg says police plan to enforce the new policy by conducting sting operations.

The change follows an incident this spring when Illinois State Police shut down a party bus during a run to Champaign.

The bus was licensed by the city of Bloomington, but police said it had several safety violations, including a rear door that was bolted shut.

Police cited 51 passengers underage drinking.
