Move over Howard Stern, Governor Rod Blagojevich wants your “King of All Media” crown.
“Rod Blagojevich needed his own Web site. It was time,” said Glenn Selig, the governor’s spokesman and founder of The Publicity Agency. “GovernorRod.com offers his fans and supporters a way to connect.”
Since his ouster from Illinois’ top office the governor has gone on a media blitz that included Larry King and The View -- where Joy Behar tousled his famous hair -- and the Today Show. He’s inked a book deal, guest DJ’d a radio show, performed in the Second City spoof that was designed to lampoon him and he sent his wife on the show, “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here,” all as a way to soften his image and, some critics say, taint the jury pool for his trial next year.
For those keeping track, that’s television, radio and print media that the coiffed-one has conquered on his “give me a break; I was wrongly fired” tour.
Blagojevich faces federal charges, including allegations he tried to sell or trade President Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat. He denies wrongdoing. Some of Blago's former allies have turned tail and agreed to testify against the governor and another, former associate Alonzo Monk is expected to enter into a plea agreement with prosecutors.
The Gov is hoping he can spread a message counter to what prosecutors are alleging and his new Web site is a variation on the media blitz theme.
“Since his controversial ousting from office, Rod Blagojevich has refused to be silent,” the Web site states. “The twice elected former governor of Illinois asserts he is innocent of all charges and looks forward to his day in court. In the meantime, he's not holding back. He's not playing politics or playing nice. He's simply speaking his mind and telling the truth!”
Blago’s Web site even includes a comments section which reads, "Speak Out! Tell Rod what's bugging you."
We’ve got a few ideas about what to say to the fallen politician. We’re sure our readers can think of a few things, too. Try leaving a message for Blago in the comments section below.
