Blackhawks to Hold Ceremony to Honor Kane's Point Streak

The Chicago Blackhawks will play their first game of 2016 at the United Center on Sunday night, and before the contest against the Ottawa Senators they will honor one of the more notable feats one of their players achieved last year.

That player is Patrick Kane, and the feat in question is the 26-game point streak that he sustained through nearly two months of action. The Blackhawks will hold a ceremony prior to Sunday’s game, with G.M. Stan Bowman giving a presentation and a video will be shown to honor Kane’s achievement.

Kane’s streak not only set a new NHL record for longest point streak by an American-born player (breaking the record that Eddie Olczyk and Phil Kessel shared), but it also set a new franchise record for the Blackhawks. It eclipsed the 21-game streak that Bobby Hull reeled off during the 1970-71 season, and it’s the longest streak the NHL has seen in over two decades.

The Blackhawks will look to get their 2016 off to a similarly successful start when they welcome the Senators to the United Center on Sunday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
