Billy Joel Announces Summer Concert at Wrigley Field

Tickets go on sale Jan. 25

The Piano Man is returning to Wrigley Field.

Billy Joel makes his first solo appearance in Chicago in seven years on July 18, he announced Thursday on his website. It marks the first time a musical artist has made a return appearance to the Friendly Confines.

“As we prepare to celebrate 100 years of great moments at Wrigley Field, it's fitting Billy Joel will return to help us celebrate this great milestone," Chicago Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts said in a statement. "He is such a spectacular performer and we can't wait for him to fill the venue with his legendary songs this July!"

In 2009, Elton John and Joel paired up for shows at the ballpark as part of their Face 2 Face tour. They played twin pianos and traded vocals, with each artist performing a set with his own band.

John has performed solo in Chicago several times since, but the 2014 summer concert will mark Joel’s first solo return to the city since 2007.

Last summer, Pearl Jam filled the stadium in a sold-out show at Wrigley Field, despite threatening weather. The Chicago Cubs now have penalties in place in case any Wrigley Field concerts run long.

Tickets for Joel's show go on sale at 10 a.m. on Jan. 25.
