Some hardy Chicagoans bike through the winter. If you'd like to join them, bundle up for January 20.

Forget about the numbing cold, the ice, the slush. You're probably sick of it anyway, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

It's not too early to polish up your bike and pull out some appropriate gear for "Bike the Drive," the annual Chicago event that allows cyclists to own Lake Shore Drive, if only for a few hours.

This year's event is scheduled a bit earlier than usual, with the date set for Sunday, May 24.  Registration is now open, and you can save $7 if you register before Jan. 25. To sign up, go to bikethedrive.org.

If you don't want to wait until spring to get the bike out, Winter Bike-to-Work Day is Jan. 20. If you can't make it to the Inauguration, maybe you can mark that day of change by changing your commute to work.  Hardy souls who want to share their hardiness with others can gather at Daley Plaza between 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.
