High Waves, Ice Force Lake Front Path Closed

Waves crashing onto the path and then freezing made it dangerous for bikers to ride along the path that follows Lake Shore Drive

The Lake Front Bike path was closed early Monday morning because high waves had created icy conditions near the trecherous s-curve.

The path was closed near Oak Street on Monday, around 7:30 a.m., while crews worked to de-ice the path.

Waves crashing onto the path and then freezing made it dangerous for bikers to ride along the path that follows Lake Shore Drive. Reports say that bikers notified police that the paths were too slippery to ride on.

Police then notified Chicago Park District authorities. Reports also say that the paths were closed for the park district to salt the paths.

Wind gusts were reported to reach a high of 25 mph and temperatures are to be in the low to mid 20s.

Temperatures should reach the 40s by the weekend.
