Bicyclist Killed in New Year's Day Hit-And-Run

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is handling the case

A bicyclist was fatally struck by a minivan in a hit-and run accident in the Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood early New Year’s Day, police said.

Aimer Robledo, 30, was riding a bike around 2:40 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Division when he was struck by a dark-colored minivan, according to authorities.

The minivan fled the scene, driving westbound on Division, police said.

Robledo, of the 1400 block of North Avers, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Robledo, who celebrated his 30th birthday less than two weeks earlier, was an aspiring DJ with an 8-year-old and a 9-year-old daughter.

He had his family over at his house for a New Year's Eve celebration and dance party, family members said. He was riding his bike to a friend's home after stopping at a nearby family member's house to visit his daughters for New Year's, his niece Ibon Hernandez told NBC Chicago.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
