Bears Bring Back CB Sherrick McManis on One-Year Deal

McManis leads the team in special teams tackles since joining the squad in 2012

The Chicago Bears continued to add pieces to their defense and special teams on Wednesday afternoon as they announced they had re-signed cornerback Sherrick McManis to a one-year contract.

McManis joined the Bears before the 2012 season in a trade, and he has racked up 38 special teams tackles during that time. McManis led the Bears in that category during the past three seasons, and he was one of the few bright spots in that area last year in a bad season that resulted in the firing of Joe Decamillis.

The Peoria, Ill., native could potentially compete for a spot as a reserve cornerback this season, but it seems unlikely that he would be able to crack the regular rotation even in nickel formations. Tim Jennings and Kyle Fuller will get plenty of action at the position, and the Bears also decided to bring back Demontre Hurst and signed Alan Ball off of free agency to compete for playing time.
