From the Dark Knight to Spider-Man to the Blues Brothers, heroes of all shapes and sizes have graced the Windy City streets.

And soon, some of the largest characters known to the silver screen will be battling in our fair city.

Director Michael Bay announced via his website Thursday that there will be "big action sequences shot in Chicago" for Transformers 3, due to be released in July 2011.

The Transformers flick certainly wouldn't be the first big blockbuster to hail from Chicago. Batman Begins, The Matrix, and Public Enemies all list Sweet Home Chicago in their cast.

But how would Ferris Bueller feel about sharing his street parade with giant robots?

Featuring redesigned characters, thunderous sound, and heavy use of computer-generated imagery (CGI), Bay's previous films in the Transformers series have been met with mixed reviews.

Hopefully, the new Transformers film won't be another Chicago feature we'll have to keep hush-hush about for 60-plus years...
