In separate incidents in downtown Chicago and west suburban Batavia, men armed with handguns robbed two bank branches on Saturday.

About 10:08 a.m., a man robbed the Old Second National Bank branch at 1078 E. Wilson St. in Batavia, according to a release from police. The bank robber, described as a white man between 25 and 30 years old, about 5-feet, 9-inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head and a black scarf covering his face, displayed a black semi-automatic weapon, police said. He got away possibly in a white or light-colored smaller 4-door sedan with an unknown amount of cash, according to police.

No one was injured in this bank robbery, police said.

In the city, a man with a handgun robbed the Citibank branch at 222 W. Adams St., according to the Chicago FBI office. This bank robber was a black man in his 20s, wearing dark clothing and a scarf over his face. He also displayed a handgun in the course of the robbery.

Anyone with information on the Batavia bank robbery is asked to contact Batavia police at (630) 454-2500. Anyone with information on either bank robbery is asked to call the Chicago FBI office, at (312) 421-6700.

There have been at least 214 bank robberies in the Chicago area this year. In 2011 there were 115 bank robberies in the Chicago metropolitan area, according to the FBI.
