Baby Killer Wants to Save Face

Convicted killer is worried about his reputation

Tony Dameron is a despicable, vile, wretched, loathsome baby killer who is beyond contempt. But he's no sex offender, he says.

Dameron, who is currently serving a life sentence at Pontiac Correctional Center, recently filed a petition to have his name removed from the Illinois Sex Offender Registry.

Dameron was found guilty, In 1998, of murdering his 3-month-old daughter. He beat the infant so badly that she was found with 37 facial injuries, a fractured skull and severe brain damage. After Dameron killed her, he stuffied her body in a duffel bag and and hid it in his apartment where the police found it.

At one time, authorities thought there was a sexual factor to Dameron's crime. He was charged with "aggravated criminal sexual assault of a child younger than 13."

Though he was never convicted of the crime, Dameron's name was put on the sex offender list.

Now the 38-year-old is complaining that being listed on the registry is causing "irreparable damage" to his prison rep.

We didn't know it was possible to harm the reputation of a baby murderer, yet, in his petition, Dameron states that he would be better suited for the Illinois Child Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry.

Better?

Dameron's request will go to Judge Michael J. Colwell in January 2010.
