Ax-Weilding Man Robs 7-11

A man in a large overcoat brandished an ax and robbed a convenience store late Friday in north suburban Park Ridge.

The robbery happened around 11:45 p.m. at the 7-11 at 976 N. Northwest Highway, according to Park Ridge Police Cmdr. Lou Jogmen.

A white man in his 40s entered the store, walked up to the lone clerk and asked for a carton of cigarettes, Jogmen said. When the clerk began to ring up the cigarettes, the man brandished an ax, which was concealed in a large overcoat he was wearing.

The ax-wielding robber demanded money and the clerk complied. He got away with all the money in the register, an undetermined amount, Jogmen said.

Police on Saturday were working with the convenience store’s manager to pull surveillance videos in order to get a better description of the robber, Jogmen said.

No one was injured and no customers were inside the store at the time of the robbery.

Park Ridge police are investigating.
