Avalanche of Snow Spills Off NW Indiana Roof

"It just released and all came crashing down" said Jeff Austgen, vice president of Austgen Properties

An avalanche of snow spilled off the roof of an industrial building in Northwest Indiana Tuesday.

Security footage shows the snow quickly and powerfully dropping off the roof of a building at Austgen Properties in Griffith, Ind., just before noon, barely missing an employee parking nearby.

"It just released and all came crashing down" said Jeff Austgen, vice president of Austgen Properties. "I was just stunned."

Austgen said the company had to have machines move the snow so that drivers could access the space.

"The poor UPS man wouldn't have been able to get through there," Austgen said.

A snow storm dropped several inches of snow on the Chicago area Monday, ahead of warming temperatures expected to melt snow and cause flooding concerns for many areas.
