Autopsy Shows Lake Forest Woman Found in Lake Michigan Drowned

Investigation into the manner of the woman's death is ongoing

An autopsy on a woman who was pulled from Lake Michigan Thursday in Lake Forest found she drowned, but the investigation into the manner of her death is ongoing.

Rebecca Long, 32, of Lake Forest was found about 100 yards from shore around 11 a.m. Long was wearing orange running sunglasses, black running pants, a black T-shirt, running shoes and a black fleece jacket, police said.

An autopsy found that Long drowned, according to the coroner’s office, but whether the manner of death will be determined to be suicide or accident is pending police investigation and further lab results.

The U.S. Coast Guard and fire departments from more than 20 towns responded to a report of a female in the water in the 500 block of Forest Park Drive.

At one time as many as six boats and a number of divers and specialists from more than 25 fire and rescue operations were in and around the water searching for the person. Two coast guard rescue helicopters coordinated the search from the air.

Lake Forest Police said Friday detectives continue to investigate the incident and ask anyone who was at Forest Park Beach Thursday morning and may have seen the victim to call 847-234-2601.
