Autopsy: Pregnant Woman Found Dead on CTA Platform Died of Natural Causes

A 21-year-old woman who was found dead on a CTA Brown Line platform over the weekend was pregnant and died of natural causes, an autopsy revealed.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the woman as June Ward of the 3800 block of West 63rd Street.

An autopsy conducted Sunday determined Ward died of “pulmonary thromboembolism” and “deep vein thrombosis," the medical examiner’s office said.

The autopsy also found that Ward was pregnant. The pregnancy was listed as a secondary factor in her death.

Pulmonary embolism is a blockage in one of the pulmonary arteries in the lungs, according to the Mayo Clinic. It is most often caused by a blood clot that travels to the lungs from the legs or other parts of the body, which is known as deep vein thrombosis. The two conditions often occur together.

Ward was found dead at the Washington and Wells station around 7 a.m. Saturday after police received a call about an unresponsive person at 30 N. Wells St., according to authorities.

Police were conducting a death investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
