The death of a 2-year-old girl from the West Englewood neighborhood was caused by multiple blunt force trauma and child abuse, and her death has been ruled a homicide.
The findings come from an autopsy performed Sunday by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
According to the medical examiner, 2-year-old Aniya Crockett was found unresponsive at her home at 6816 S. Wood St. and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at noon on Saturday.
The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating "an allegation of death by abuse against (the romantic partner)" of the child's mother, according to agency spokesman Kendall Marlowe.
DCFS has not had any prior investigations involving this child or her mother, Marlowe said on Sunday afternoon. He did not have any additional information on the case or the family.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
