Chicago Police issued a community alert Thursday after an attempted kidnapping in the Little Village neighborhood.

Police said a man followed a girl into an alley at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 3500 block of West 27th Street. The man grabbed her arm and tried to drag her toward a garage, police said, but she got away.

He is described as a 30- to 35-year-old Hispanic man standing 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 with a mustache and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Police said he had a "dirty appearance."

Police urge parents not to let their children walk alone and instead identify safe havens along the child's route.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
