Arrest Made in Fatal Hit And Run

Victim found near Axehead Lake Forest Preserve

A Skokie man was charged Friday in connection with a hit-and-run accident that took the life of a bicyclist.

Kristian Hernandez, 36, was charged with Class 1 felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident resulting in death.

A bicyclist discovered the victim lying in the grass just off Touhy Avenue near the Axehead Lake Forest Preserve.

Police say Hernandez took a vehicle brought into an auto body shop for an estimate on repairs that matched a car they were looking for in connection with the accident.

Hernandez was arrested Wednesday and police say he's confessed to the crime. He's being held on a $100,000 bond.
