Armed Robbery Reported Near UIC Campus

Student held up at gunpoint Wednesday by two men in an SUV

A student at the University of Illinois at Chicago was held at gunpoint and robbed Wednesday night on the 700 block of South Laflin, police said.

The student was walking northbound on Laflin when two men in a red SUV approached him, according to Chicago police. One of the men pointed a semi-automatic handgun and demanded his book bag, the student told officers.

The student complied and the bag was picked up by the second man. Both men headed back to their SUV and drove away.

The UIC student was not injured. He described both men as black, 20 to 23 years old, 5-foot-6 in height and 160 pounds.

One man had braided black hair and was wearing a baseball cap with white trim, a dark hoodie and blue jeans at the time of the incident. The other was wearing dark clothes, said police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call UIC police at 312-996-2830. Police recommend that those faced with an armed robber should comply with their requests, like the student in this case.
