The tornadoes ravaged parts of northern Illinois, hitting the towns of Rochelle and Fairdale the hardest

The tornadoes that ravaged parts of northern Illinois April 9, 2015, carved a destructive path of historical proportions through the state.

Hitting the small communities of Fairdale and Rochelle the hardest, the tornadoes caused damage across the northern part of the state and hovered around the edge of Chicago at times.

Here's a look at the debilitating storm by the numbers.

11: The number of tornadoes that touched the ground in northern Illinois on April 9, according to the National Weather Service.

25: The number of years since an EF-4 or stronger tornado hit the greater Chicago area.

2: The number of people who died in the deadly tornadoes. Both victims, 69-year-old Jacklyn Klosa and 67-year-old Geraldine "Geri" Schultz, lived in Fairdale. They were friends and neighbors.

22: The number of people injured in the storms.

33: The tornado that tore through Rochelle and Fairdale was the 33rd EF-4 tornado or stronger on record in Illinois.

4: The number of counties the EF-4 tornado touched on its destructive path -- Lee, Ogle, DeKalb and Boone Counties.

200: The EF-4 tornado generated winds up to 200 miles per hour.

2: The number of baby goats born at the Summerfield Zoo in Belvidere during the storm. Another two animals were, unfortunately, killed.

14: Number of people rescued from Grubsteakers restaurant in Rochelle after becoming trapped when the building collapsed.

900: Approximate number of flights canceled in the Chicago area due to the severe weather.
