Click To Donate: Virtual Angel Tree Program Now Open

NBC5 and Telemundo Chicago are partnering with The Salvation Army to offer an online version of the Angel Tree program to our viewers.

NBC5 and Telemundo Chicago have partnered with The Salvation Army for this year's Angel Tree program, which is now open to our viewers.

Angel Tree, a program that began with one tree in Mt. Prospect in 1982 and has since expanded to malls, stores, organizations and corporations throughout the Chicago area, allows Christmas gifts to be donated to Chicago children in need during the holiday season.

Here's how the virtual version of Angel Tree works: Visit NBC5.TheAngelGivingTree.org and register as a donor. There, select online tags that correspond with children in need.

Select a child by clicking on the Angel tags hanging on the tree or search by gender, age or type of toy.

Angel tags are ornaments on an online Christmas tree that list a specific child's age, gender and gift wish(es). Once chosen, tags are emailed to the donor. The donor will also receive a reminder as Christmas approaches.

Once you have chosen a tag online, click the "Add to Wish List" box. You can view your Angel wish list and reserve your tags. You can also add or remove tags.

Click on the "Email Angel Gift Tag" button and an email confirmation and gift tag will be sent to you.

Virtual Angel tags are available through early December. The suggested deadline to deliver your gifts is Dec. 21, 2016, so The Salvation Army can deliver the gifts by Christmas.

If you purchase Angel Tree gifts online, please have them mailed to:
