Lee DeWyze Goes Brogue on “Idol”

DeWyze took complete credit for the bagpiper despite what the judges thought

Mount Prospect's "American Idol" hopeful Lee DeWyze raised some eyebrows Tuesday night when a bagpiper accompanied him on a Beatles classic.

There’s a time and place for everything, but the judges were curious about 24-year-old's choice during his rendition of "Hey Jude."

"I thought you sounded great, you never lost your cool even when that guy from the parade showed up,” judge Ellen DeGeneres said, according to the Daily Herald.

And of course, it wouldn’t be "Idol" without tart tongued commentary from Simon Cowell, who said it looked like the bagpiper belonged on another show.

“I don’t know what you guys are drinking in the mansion,” said Cowell. “But I would not have done that.”

DeWyze took credit for the decision to include the bagpiper.

“Why not, man?” DeWyze told host Ryan Seacrest.

“Lee’s the biggest worrywart,” fellow contestant Katie Stevens told the audience.  DeWyze bets he’s going home every week, but he’s still here, Stevens said.

Who knows? After Tuesday night’s odd performance, DeWyze may actually have a good reason to be worried.
