The CTA Red Line was shut down early Friday at Thorndale after a "suspicious package" was found at the train station.
Chicago Police said a briefcase was found unattended at the Thorndale stop at about 2:25 a.m. Police investigated the black case with the help of a bomb squad and determined it did not pose a threat.
The Red Line was stopped until about 4:45 a.m. Until then northbound trains went as far as Bryn Mawr before turning around.
Service was back to normal this morning.
