Chicago Police on Tuesday issued an armed-robbery alert urging fast-food companies on the city's South and Southwest sides to check their caller ID before responding to an order.
The alert comes after two robberies against delivery drivers in recent weeks. Detectives say armed suspects phone in phony orders, and drivers are robbed when they arrive with the food.
Last week a woman delivered a pizza on the South Side and was shot in the leg, police said.
Detectives say restaurant owners should ask customers to leave their porch lights on for extra safety. Drivers also are warned to be suspicious of requests for change for large bills and told to stay in the car until making visual contact with the customer.
If the location turns out to be vacant or abandoned, police say they should drive away immediately.
