Ald. Joe Moreno Arrested, Police Say

Ald. Proco "Joe" Moreno was arrested Tuesday night, Chicago police confirmed.

Police said they would release more information once the booking process is complete. They said Moreno, alderman of the city's 1st Ward, was in custody “on an arrest warrant that was issued,” but did not specify what the charge was.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Moreno was being investigated to determine if he lied to police about his car being stolen in January.

Police pulled over a woman driving the car, the newspaper reported, but she told them she and Moreno dated and he let her drive it. She was initially charged with trespass to a motor vehicle, the Tribune reported, but that charge was dismissed. An investigation was then opened into whether or not Moreno filed a false police report, according to the newspaper.

Moreno just lost his seat to Alderman-elect Daniel La Spata, slated to be sworn in on May 20.
