1 person killed, 3 others critically injured

An overnight head-on collision near Antioch left one woman dead and three other people critically injured.

Around 1:25 a.m. a GMC Envoy SUV was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of Grass Lake Road when it crashed into a woman driving a 2000 Mitsubishi in the westbound lane, said Christopher Thompson, media spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff's Department.

The woman, identified by police as Danielle N. Trevithick or Spring Grove, Illinois, died on the scene.

The man driving the SUV, who was identified by police as Michael P. Albers J. of Zion, Illinois, was ejected and two other passengers in that vehicle needed to be extricated.

Albers was transported by helicopter to St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford. The other two survivors were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Blood tests are pending on at least one of the victims.

Some of the victims were wearing seat belts and airbags did deploy, according to police on the scene. Investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash. They are running blood tests on Albers to determine his blood alcohol content.
