Airline Employee Among 2 Arrested With Loaded Guns at O'Hare

Two men, including an airline employee, were arrested for bringing loaded handguns to O’Hare International Airport in separate instances within an hour of each other on Friday afternoon.

About noon Friday, Transportation Security Administration agents used an X-ray machine to find a loaded 9 mm Ruger ST40C inside the carry-on bag of 50-year-old James Long, an airline employee, according to Chicago Police and the TSA.

At 1 p.m., agents found a loaded .22-caliber North American Arms Derringer in 68-year-old Royal Bastian III’s luggage, authorities said. Bastian, a Rockford resident, was traveling to North Carolina, a TSA spokesman said.

Each was charged with one misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm at an airport, police said.

Long, of the 11700 block of South Loomis, is scheduled to appear in court May 6. Bastian, of the 2200 block of West Princeton in Rockford, is expected on May 8, police said.
