Activist Ja'Mal Green Says He Will Run For Mayor

A community activist announced Wednesday he intends to run for mayor of Chicago.

Ja'Mal Green was born and raised in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood. Green has raised his profile in recent years for speaking out against police shootings and has been a fundraiser for a new youth center on the South Side.

It's a rather crowded field that Mayor Rahm Emanuel may face. Already announced: Garry McCarthy, Paul Vallas, Willie Wilson, Troy Laraviere and Neal Sales Griffin who plans to make it official this weekend.

Others also considering running for mayor include Lori Lightfoot, Bridget Gainer and Ra Joy.

The election is February 26 If one candidate does not have 50 percent plus one there will be a runoff in April.
