‘9 More Seasons, Morty!' : McDonald's Brings Back Fabled Szechuan Sauce For 1 Day Only

For once, instead of his drinking, that drool on Rick Sanchez’s chin might be due to the sight of his prized McDonald’s Szechuan dipping sauce—which the franchise says is coming back for just one day in October.

A website promoted by McDonald’s corporate chef, Mike Haracz, alludes to the sauce’s release being a direct result to its prominent feature in an episode of the nihilistic cult cartoon show “Rick and Morty”—which chronicles the interdimensional travels of a teenage boy and his alcoholic super-genius grandfather.

“In addition, after nearly 20 years (and perhaps a bit of time travel) we’re even doing the impossible…” the website reads.

The sauce will be released on Oct. 7 with collectible sauce-themed posters, the McDonald’s site says.

A McDonald's spokesperson confirmed the fabled sauce's imminent release and said they'd be in touch "with more details soon."

“We’re also giving away a one-time only, limited edition, run of Szechuan Sauce in select restaurants,” the website says.

In August, co-creator of “Rick and Morty” Justin Roiland tweeted to his 506,000 followers “Follow @Mike_Haracz and ask him to get that SAUCE TO US! Haha”

“I’ll see what I can do,” Haracz responded in October.

Other sauces and collectible posters will be released in conjunction with McDonald’s new Buttermilk Crispy Tenders—but the Szechuan sauce is the one with such a following of devout fans, and the site McDonald’s site acknowledges that.

“Sometimes, their impulsivity can get them into all sorts of hijinks, but their mad genius is their portal out of trouble,” it reads. “They truly put the ‘I WANT THAT SZECHUAN SAUCE’ in ‘Buttermilk Crispy Tenders.’”

At the end of the episode that sparked the saucy cultural revolution—Rick stands over a shaken Morty while extrapolating his ultimate life goal—to get that McNugget sauce.

“I’ll go out and I’ll find some more of that ‘Mulan’ Szechuan teriyaki dipping sauce, Morty!” Rick rants rabidly over his cowering grandson. “Because that’s what this is all about, Morty! That’s my one-armed man! I’m not driven by avenging my dead family, Morty! I’m driven by finding that McNugget sauce! I want that ‘Mulan’ McNugget sauce, Morty! That’s my series arch, Morty! If it takes nine seasons—I want my McNugget dipping sauce—Szechuan sauce, Morty! That’s what’s gonna take us all the way to the end, Morty! Season—nine more seasons, Morty! Nine more seasons until I get that dipping Szechuan sauce—or 97 more years, Morty. I want that McNugget sauce!”

McDonald’s created the sauce originally in 1998 as a promotion for the Disney film ‘Mulan.’

A Change.org petition to bring the sauce back has nearly 50,000 signatures.
