60K Shoppers Flood New Rosemont Outlet Mall On First Day

Lines of up to two hours reported outside Tory Burch, Gucci and Prada stores

If you're thinking of stopping by Fashion Outlets of Chicago, the new outlet mall in Rosemont, be prepared for a crowd.

An estimated 60,000-plus shoppers turned out to Thursday's grand opening, and they reportedly opened their wallets in a big way. Mall representatives said several retailers saw record-breaking opening-day sales, and Tory Burch, Gucci and Prada stores had lines that lasted up to two hours.

"We’ve been open for a just over an hour and shoppers are lined up outside of Tory Burch again!" spokeswoman Laurie Leopold said in an email.

To celebrate the opening, Leopold said stores are offering deals all weekend, including 40 percent off at J Crew, $25 off $50 purchases at Bloomingdales and more.

Before you go, know that the mall houses more than 130 stores, including Neiman Marcus Last Call, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th and Forever 21. Mall officials said the stores are true outlets, not regular retailers posing as such in a different setting, so there should be deals to be had.

If you're after high-end goods, head to the second floor and eyeball posh retailers such as Gucci, Hugo Boss and Barneys New York.

The mall offers a variety of special transportation packages to get there, both from downtown Chicago and O'Hare Airport, as well as free shuttle buses from the Rosemont Blue Line.

Airport travelers have the option of checking their luggage and printing boarding passes at the Guest Services location at the mall.
