A 6-year-old girl who was wounded during a drive-by shooting in the Little Village neighborhood Saturday afternoon has died.

The young girl was outside in the 3100 block of South Springfield Avenue when a pickup truck approached about 3:40 p.m. and two people inside pulled out guns and started shooting, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

The girl was shot in the abdomen area and taken in “very critical” condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

It is unknown who the intended targets were, but a handgun was recovered, police said.

Dispatch reports indicated the pickup truck used in the shooting may have been stolen.

Two people are being questioned, and Area Central detectives are investigating.
