5 Shot, 2 Fatally, While Sitting on South Side Porch

Five people were shot, two fatally, while sitting on a porch in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood late Sunday, police said.

A group of about 50 people were outside for a gathering at a home in the 2000 block of West 68th Place, taking advantage of one of the first warm nights of the season, when police say just after 11 p.m. someone dressed in black with a gun jumped out of a car and opened fire.

Two men, ages 26 and 38, were killed.

The other three victims include a 27-year-old man who was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the back. Another 27-year-old man was shot in the leg and is now stable. A 24-year-old woman is also in stable condition after being treated at Stroger Hospital in Chicago.

Friends and family gathered outside the home in shock after the shootings as a swarm of investigators scoured the scene for hours looking for shell casings and other evidence.

Area South detectives were searching for suspects Monday morning, telling NBC 5 they do believe the shooting was gang-related.
