Ambulance Driver Charged With DUI After Crash

Driver was southbound on Clark Street in a private ambulance with his siren blaring about 10:45 a.m. when he struck a 2012 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driving west on Montrose Avenue, police said.

A five-car pileup Sunday sent 13 people to the hospital, including four children, in a west Chicago suburb.

First responders with the Bellwood Fire Department arrived at the scene around 4 p.m. near Saint Charles and Mannheim Roads, according to authorities.

The cause was not clear but Captain Ken Dumovich said 13 people were transported to area hospital with varying conditions.

One of the victims needed to be extracted from the vehicle, officials said.

Dumovich said the cause of the crash was not immediately clear but several vehicles had impact damage to the fronts or sides of the vehicles.
