Chicago police are creating a 400 officer gang unit in an effort to reduce the number of murders in the city.

Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis is changing the way cops fight Chicago’s street gang problem. With nearly 70 percent of the city's murders related to gang violence, his new plan will have teams focus on troubled areas.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Weis is adding 400 officers to create a new Gang Enforcement Unit that will be available to combat gangs citywide and not just in the district where they are currently assigned.

DALEY IGNORED THE 3 SUGGESTED CANDIDATES FOR SUPT. AND BROUGHT WEISS IN, AND YET DALEY DOESN'T WANT TO HIRE MORE THAN 200 MORE OFFICERS IN THE NEXT BUDGET. THEY'RE ALREADY SEVERELY UNDERMANNED AND DALEY'S TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO CUT COSTS TO BRING THE OLYMIPICS HERE? IDIOT.
