‘It Happened During Nap Time': 4 Injured in Back of the Yards Shooting Near Daycare

Four people were injured in a shooting in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood near a daycare, piercing a window of the building.

All victims were in a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old in the 5400 block of South Loomis at 1:55 p.m. when another vehicle approached and fired shots, according to police. All victims drove to Holy Cross Hospital together after the incident.

A 20-year-old who was shot in the chest is in critical condition, according to police. A 16-year-old was also shot in the arms and is in stable condition.

The 24-year-old and another 20-year-old had wounds to their hands, police said.

Computer Preschool Academy worker Roslyn Thomas said a bullet pierced a window of a door of the building. Nobody was injured and the daycare remained open. She said “it happened during nap time” and the children never woke up.

Police said the man who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and the man who suffered a gunshot wound to the left hand were documented gang members.
