Gregory D. Standifer, 27, of the 900 block of Bowling Green Drive, was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery and criminal sexual assault, according to Chicago Police.  He is being held without bond.

Jaivon Sandifer, 3, was stabbed when an argument between his parents turned violent, police said.

One neighbor, who was inside the apartment after the incident, said the little boy was attacked in his bed.

Jaivon was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County shortly after noon.

The boy's mother, 25-year-old Margaret Jefferson, was seriously wounded after Standifer allegedly attacked the pair in their west side Austin home.

Neighbors said they saw Jefferson hanging out a second-story window in an attempt to escape her boyfriend.

They said they also saw the man jump from the second floor porch down to the yard of the house next door because of two large dogs that were on the porch. Neighbors said the man visibly broke his leg -- the bone between his foot and knee snapped in two -- when he landed on the ground.

He then crawled across the alleyway to a garage and pleaded for help, they said. Instead, another neighbor called police.

Jefferson remained hospitalized Friday evening. Family members said she was a student at Northeastern Illinois University, but it was unknown if she was enrolled in the fall semester.

Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
