3 Teens Charged in Red Line Robbery

Security guard on his way to work catches suspects

A National Guardsmen on his way to work as a security guard helped thwart an armed robbery attempt inside the North/Clybourn Red Line station.

Three teenagers have been arrested and charged in the crime.

The robbery attempt happened Saturday at 6:37 p.m. The 21-year-old man was walking toward the stairs near the platform when three teens came up to him, pulled out a gun and tried to steal his iPhone, according to police.

The victim ran away and asked an armed security guard, who was on his way to work, for help. The security guard, who turned out to be a National Guardsman, held the teens until police arrived and arrested them.

Donte Jackson, 17, was charged with felony attempted aggravated robbery and assault. Two 16-year-olds were also charged with felony attempted aggravated robbery. Their identities are withheld because of their age.

Police said the gun was actually a replica, not a working firearm.
