UPDATE: Driver of street swiper cited for running red light...

A car accident killed three family members in a three-car collision Sunday night in Orland Park, police said.

The accident, involving a Toyota Camry, small pickup truck and a street sweeper, happened around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of 171st Street and LaGrange Road.

The victims were driving in the Toyota Camry, police said. They were identified as Nazai M. Deis, 62; Wafieh N. Deis, 49; and Samah N. Deis, 15, all of the 17300 block of Queen Mary Lane in Tinley Park.

"They were hard-working, regular people, just like anybody else that lives on this block. They were immigrants [who] lived here for 30 years from Palestine, and they were out for Sunday dinner at Olive Garden and never made it home," Thair Deis, a family member.

Officials said the family's 24-year-old daughter was driving when the street sweeper, headed northbound, hit the family's Camry, causing it to hit a pick-up truck at the eastbound light.

Nazai M. Deis was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. at Palos Community Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Wafieh N. Deis and Samah N. Deis were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver survived.

Family members expressed outrage that authorities visited the driver in the hospital and cited her for failure to yield and turning left.
