3 Teens Charged in Shooting Death of Chicago 15-Year-Old

Three teenagers face charges after attempting to rob a 15-year-old boy and then shooting him to death in the city’s Lawndale neighborhood.

The Chicago Police Department says the boys were charged as adults Sunday with first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery and discharging a firearm causing bodily harm.

The police department did not identify the boys because they are juveniles.

The shooters are ages 14, 15 and 16, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police say the group of boys approached Kimon Wheeler about 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 4100 block of West Cullerton Street, and then tried to rob him.

When the boy turned to try to run away he was shot in the back.

Kimon was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Family members told the Tribune that he had been hanging out with his cousins on the night leading up to his death.

Kimon was set to attend Proviso East High School in Maywood in the fall, the Tribune reports, and he enjoyed mathematics and dancing.

The three teenagers charged are expected to appear in bond court Sunday.
