3 Illinois Cities Named Drunkest in State: Report

A new study found those who live in Chicago and two surrounding suburbs to be the booziest people in the entire state.

Analysis company 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the percentage of men and women who report binge or heavy drinking in each of the state’s metro areas.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention define ‘binge drinking’ as consuming four or more drinks for women and five or more drinks for men in a single sitting. ‘Heavy drinking’ is classified by the CDC as 15 drinks a week for men and eight drinks a week for women.

As for our state? Overall, Illinois ranks high compared to other states across the country. One in five adults in Illinois report heavy or binge-drinking, according to the report.

The study found three cities to have the most excessive drinkers in the entire state: Chicago, west suburban Naperville and northwest suburban Elgin.

In Chicago, 21 percent of residents have binge or heavy drinking habits, with over 39 percent of driving deaths being related to alcohol, according to the study.
