Four men were killed and at least 24 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.
The most recent homicide happened Sunday evening in a Hermosa neighborhood alley on the Northwest Side.
A 39-year-old man was found unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot wound to the back in the 1900 block of North Keeler just before 6 p.m., according to Chicago Police.
He was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but withheld his name pending notification of his family.
Saturday night, a 29-year-old man was gunned down in the Irving Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
Henry Cruz, 29, was found shot in the head about 8:15 p.m. and pronounced dead at the scene in the 3200 block of West Irving Park Road, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Cruz lived in the 800 block of North Hamlin.
Two men were killed in separate shootings late Saturday morning on the Southwest and Far South sides.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 11:45 a.m. in the 4500 block of South Cicero in Garfield Ridge found Quintae Little with a gunshot wound to the right side of his torso, authorities said.
The 34-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died less than an hour later. He lived in the 4500 block of South Lavergne, authorities said.
Officers recovered a weapon from Little on the scene, police said.
About 10:30 a.m., a northwest Indiana man was killed in a domestic related shooting in Roseland.
Corey Ferguson, 32, was fighting with a 55-year-old man in the 11200 block of South Normal when the older man pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting Ferguson in the chest, authorities said.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 11:16 a.m. He lived in the 1500 block of Ralston Street in Gary, Indiana.
The shooter was identified as Terry Givan, who faces first-degree murder charges.
The three latest nonfatal shootings happened Sunday night South and Southwest sides.
About 10 p.m., a 17-year-old boy walking with a group in West Pullman’s 11500 block of South Eggleston was shot in both thighs by a gunman who walked out from an alley. The boy, a documented gang member, was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
At 7:15 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the leg by someone who robbed him in the 5100 block of South East End Avenue in Kenwood. His condition was stabilized at Stroger Hospital, police said.
About 6 p.m., a 47-year-old man was shot in the face in the 4600 block of South Leamington in Garfield Ridge. Police said he was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital but did not have details on the circumstances of the shooting.
At least 21 other people have been shot in other attacks across Chicago since 6:45 p.m. Friday.
