Woman Charged After Dog Freezes to Death

A Calumet Park woman faces misdemeanor charges after authorities say her pit bull froze to death after being left outside.

Tracy Cherry, 46, is charged with animal cruelty and owner’s duties.

Sheriff’s Animal Crimes unit received a tip on Jan. 16 that the dog died in the below freezing temperatures after being kept in a dog house outside an apartment in the 1400 block of West 123rd Street.

Authorities say the 9-year-old male pit bull's body was found inside the dog house when officers arrived, and hypothermia was determined to be the cause of death.

Officials say the dog was left outside for around 12 hours.
