2016 Chicago Marathon Medal Design Revealed

The 2016 Bank of America Chicago Marathon medal design has been revealed -- and this year's engraving pays tribute with a flashback of marathons past.

"The Chicago Marathon has a history of using our medal to show off iconic locations from the city we love,” said marathon spokesperson Cindy Hamilton. “This year is no different.”

The 2016 medal features an engraving of the original starting line of the marathon, which once began next to the Picasso statute located in front of the Richard J. Daley Civic Center.

“We selected the image to pay homage to the original starting line of the marathon, and also to celebrate the starting line of the inaugural International Chicago 5k,” Hamilton said.

Previous medals have featured images of the Chicago Cloud Gate sculpture in Milennium Park in 2015, and the iconic Buckingham Fountain in downtown Chicago in 2014.
