2015 Chicago Marathon: By the Numbers

Thousands of runners will give it their best at the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 a.m. Here are some numbers to know about this year's race:

$254 Million - The amount of revenue the Chicago Marathon brought into the city in 2014 through travel, lodging, entertainment and transportation.

29 - The number of Chicago neighborhoods the marathon will cross through during the Oct. 11 race.

1.7 Million - The number of spectators that watched the 2014 marathon from the start of the race to the final stretch down Columbus Drive.

$132 Million - The amount of money the marathon has offered runners the opportunity to raise for charitable causes.

4 - The number of times a world record has been broken at the Chicago Marathon.

26.2 Miles - The length of a marathon. The Oct. 13 race will start and end in Grant Park, winding all the way up to Lakeview East and back down through Lincoln Park, River North and University Village.

38 - The age of this year's race. Organizers estimate the annual race draws 1.7 million spectators.

4-6 - Ounces of water marathon officials recommend runners drink every 15-20 minutes after the running begins.

2:03:45 - The fastest marathon time set in 2013 by Dennis Kimetto.

40,659 - The record number of runners that finished the 2014 Chicago Marathon.
