2 Killed in Rollover Crash on I-57

All outbound lanes were closed for several hours, reopening shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Two people were killed in a rollover crash on I-57 early Sunday, closing all outbound lanes on Chicago's Far South Side for several hours, authorities confirmed.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., a car struck a pole and then a median/bridge support and rolled over in the outbound lanes of I-57 near 99th Street, according to Illinois State Police.

The two women inside the car were killed in the crash, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, the ISP confirmed.

No further information about the victims was available, and the Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the fatalities.

No other injuries were reported, authorities said.

All outbound lanes near 99th Street were closed for several hours, but reopened shortly after 8:30 a.m.
