At Least 6 Hospitalized Amid Hazmat Situation in Downtown Chicago: Fire Officials

A Hazmat situation in Chicago's Loop left at least six people hospitalized Friday morning. 

Chicago fire officials said two people were taken to an area hospital after it is believed they were mixing chlorine and acid on the roof of a building at 77 W. Wacker Dr. 

They later added that four more people were transported to hospitals with respiratory issues. 

In total, two people were taken to Rush University Medical Center and four to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair-to-stable condition. 

Their ages weren't immediately known, but the injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening, authorities said. 

Fire officials said the situation had been upgraded to a Level 2 Hazmat just before 10:45 a.m.
