A school bus crashed shortly after 8 a.m. Friday morning in north suburban Newport on Kilbourne Road and Route 173 on its way to Newport Elementary School.

Two men were stabbed Saturday morning on the Near North Side in two separate stabbings that occurred within 20 minutes of each other on Clark Street, police said.

The first stabbing occurred around 3:40 a.m. in the 1200 block of North Clark Street where one man was stabbed in his torso, police said. Another man was stabbed in the abdomen in the 600 block of North Clark Street around 4 a.m., officials said.

The men, who were both in their 20s, were reportedly taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious to critical condition.

Residents near where the stabbings occurred said the area is usually safe and were surprised by the incidents.
